The Short:

Our Milky Way Magic tour is a 60 minute family-friendly introduction of the night sky. The tour will be a mix of naked-eye visual stargazing, learning about the brighter stars and important constellations, telescope observations and a free group photograph under the stars. The perfect place to begin your stargazing journey!

The Long:

Your stargazing adventure starts here! We’ll introduce you to the magic of the Milky Way on our 60-minute beginner-friendly stargazing experience with one of our amazing guides. We use powerful 12” telescopes for incredible views of various deep space and solar system objects and special astro-lasers for easy naked-eye viewing of important stars and constellations.

At the end of your journey through our night sky, your guide will take a photo of the entire group under the stars (Weather Dependent). And our gift to you!  Within 48 hours we will upload your photo onto our public Flickr website and then email you a link to download your digital copy of your photo so you can share it with your family and friends, and of course on social media.

The perks of our tour don’t stop there! We cap our tours at 20 people which means that everyone will have plenty of time on the telescopes and opportunities to ask our guide questions. 

Have kids? AWESOME. We are super passionate about sharing the night sky with kids, any age can join our tours including infants but please remember children and infants must be accompanied by an adult.

We meet at our exclusive Milky Way Magic location situated on the beautiful Cairns Golf Course. Don’t have a car? Don’t worry, one of our guides will be on hand to shuttle you to the Milky Way magic venue from the top of Sibbald Lane. Once parked, follow the path lit by red lights to our Milky Way Magic observation site. All of our stargazing locations are super dark, with some of the lowest light pollution in Tekapo. We have the pleasure of being able to run our tours from within the gold-rated Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, some of the darkest skies on the entire planet.
